Pen Cap Design

The inspiration for the Music Pen Cap came from the observation of how people use products in their daily lives. JiaYi Cai aimed to find the subconscious behavior and emotional transitions that occur when using products. By incorporating these insights into the design, the Music Pen Cap offers a novel and resonating experience.

The pen caps are arranged according to different color combinations. When the pencil lightly crosses the cap, different tones of crisp sweet music are produced. With 12 pens, each having a cap with a different thickness and color, the "music" pen caps not only exercise the player's patience but also stimulate their auditory development and perception of music, while maintaining their interest in painting.

The Music Pen Cap is made using a special color material with varying thickness. The surface of the pen cap is colored and coated with varnish. For small quantities, 3D printing techniques using photosensitive resin materials can be employed. Mass production can be achieved using PP or ABS plastic materials with molds.

With dimensions of 18*18*53(mm), the Music Pen Cap offers a unique and engaging way for children to explore their creativity through art and music. It was designed by JiaYi Cai, with contributions from JiaLiang Cai, ZhiPing Chen, and under the guidance of ShaoShi Yan. The project was completed in Macau in April 2019.

The Music Pen Cap was awarded the Iron A' Design Award in the Art and Stationery Supplies Design category in 2020. This prestigious award recognizes well-designed, practical, and innovative creations that meet professional and industrial requirements. The Music Pen Cap stands out for its integration of industry best practices, competent technical characteristics, and its contribution to a better world.
